Musings on Car Accidents

My husband and I are wary of parking our cars next to a dilapidated looking car, especially one with several dents and bumps, badly in need of a trip to a car repair shop.  Our thinking is that the driver of that car does not seem to be a careful person, hence the dents.  Bad as it may seem, we’re also worried that due to his carelessness, our car will also a little bit of damage when he backs his car out of the parking space.

Sure, accidents are sometimes unavoidable.  I’ve been in a few myself, sometimes the circumstances were pretty lame.  I get to lambast myself for a long time afterwards since it’s a waste of both time and money just because I was careless.  But, what I couldn’t probably bear is if I actually caused injury to some person.  I mean, sure you’d have to spend money for car repairs but you can earn that back, but actually hurting, and God forbid, causing death to another person is something else.  I know for sure that my conscience will tear me apart.

I’ve heard rumors that some bus companies actually ask their drivers to “make sure” their victims are dead because it’s cheaper to pay for funeral expenses than hospital expenses.  I do not know if this is true, but if it is, that is something already bordering on evil.

    yes doc joey,
i actually had a patient who said that the bus that side swiped him came back and ran over him again! this wasn’t told to me directly, as by the time i saw the patient he was already stuporous, this was told to the resident who saw the patient at the ER. patient underwent explore laparotomy for blunt abdominal trauma and multiple internal injuries. he died several days later. up to this day i still can’t believe that the bus actually backed up and ran over him again.

The driver should be charged for murder! And if it’s true that the company condones it, it should also be given punishment — what, I do not know, maybe at least revocation of the franchise so that they would at least feel that it’s NOT cheaper to pay off the dead’s relatives.

    Scary world!
