Erectile Dysfunction
Sometimes, I feel that some men more than any other disease, actually fear being seen as less manly. That’s why a lot of men fear impotence, more scientifically known as erectile dysfunction or E.D., because they think they are less macho when they have this problem. It is the main reason why Viagra is so popular, and so expensive (as there is a definite demand for it.) Cheaper alternatives, like the so-called herbal viagra, is also available for men who have this problem but find viagra expensive or who could not get a doctor’s prescription for the popular description drug for E.D. for whatever reason. There is a good reason why viagra is not available over-the-counter — there are associated side effects with these, especially involving the cardiovascular system, hence it’s not the answer for everybody.
It is actually best to first consult a doctor for this problem. The specialist to approach is a urologist. Why is this important? There are several reasons why the man may have difficulty with achieving and maintaining erection. He may have an underlying disease that causes this problem. For example, men with uncontrolled diabetes have a problem with blood flow in general, and thus experience difficulty in getting the blood to their genitals, thus the difficulty with getting and maintaining erection. In such cases, it is imperative to treat the diabetes mellitus, not only to address the issue of E.D., but also to prevent the other devastating effects of the disease itself. There may also be anatomical problems with the man’s genitals, either congenital or acquired, which may require surgery. Whatever the problem is, it is best to know the root of the problem before resorting to the blue pill. This is what the urologist will do — try to find out what actually caused the problem and address the cause of the problem. There is no shame in consulting a doctor and trying to find the problem, so that the right solution may be given.
