Some of My Favorite Movies

I know I’ve been remiss in updating this blog, even missed a few editions of The Blog Rounds. Worse, I was supposed to host one edition of the Blog Rounds last December but missed it completely. Arrggghhh!

Anyway, this is a “make-up” post for The Blog Rounds.

I’ll be frank, there are a lot of movies I’ve watched, I’ve either loved or hated or said “well, that’s ok, it was a good time killer, but I didn’t really miss anything…”

When asked about my top ten movies, I was a bit hard pressed to come up with 10 :). I then thought about movies I wouldn’t mind watching again :).

These are the ten I’ve chosen and why I chose them:

1, 2 and 3:
The Lord of the Rings trilogy
The Fellowship of the Ring
The Two Towers
Return of the King

This one is definitely top of mind. I didn’t have to think long and hard about this.  This is the epic movie that, in my mind, rules above every other epic movie.  Mind you, each part of the trilogy was long, but we didn’t fidget in the theater as much as other long movies.  My husband loved it so much he got the original DVD boxed set — and frugal me let him.

It’s a mythical world with mythical characters, but with values applicable to the real world. Some say the book is better, but for me, I loved the movie more despite its flaws (in sometimes not keeping with the book).

4, 5, 6:
Star Wars: A New Hope
The Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi

Another top of mind choice for me!

I loved George’s Lucas’ original trilogy. It was the 1970’s and you have to admit, the effects they used weren’t that spectacular compared to what could be done now with newer technology. But they were very creative and definitely ahead of the times! Great storytelling too! Didn’t like the prequels so much, even if they had better effects.

7-10 in no particular order

Sleepless in Seattle
I’m a sucker for romantic comedies, but this one sticks out most in my head.

Schindler’s List
This made me understand more the horrors of the Holocaust…and the lasting, heroic efforts of somebody as “unsaintly” as Schindler.

The Sixth Sense
Horror-suspense with a great twist…and redemption. Loved all the characters here, but mostly talented Haley Joel Osment!

The Usual Suspects
Great storytelling and great twist at the end. Superb acting by Kevin Spacey!
